Monkey Boy in the New York Times!

The New York Times just conducted a board book roundup in their books section and I am beyond psyched to have the board book edition of Good Night, Monkey Boy included.

Says The Times:
“If monkey business is part of your family’s bedtime routine, this book may give your children the cozy feeling that they are not lone miscreants but part of a tribe. That may reassure the parents of monkeys, too!”

Read the full book review here:

Thank you, New York Times!!!

A Thanksgiving Day feature in THE ATLANTIC!

I am thankful that I was home on a Friday afternoon when the phone rang. I'm thankful that there was a last minute cancellation for a TEDx talk and I was invited to step in. I'm thankful for the 100 people that were in the room and the 5,000 people who have viewed the video online in the past week. And I am very, very thankful for this Thanksgiving Day feature in THE ATLANTIC! Especially because I get to champion all of the folks that I am so very thankful for!

Book Links

To all of my librarian friends, if you have your January edition of Book Links, you'll find an interview with some odd guy with an unpronounceable last name talking about lunch ladies and punk farms.

Honored to have been featured in ALA's magazine! Thanks to Robert Reid and the good folks over at Book Links for having me.

If you have a login you can read the interview here! And if you don't have a login, you can get a free trial. OR you can see a hard copy of the magazine when visiting your library!

Read all about it

In today's Hampshire Gazette, there is a very thorough feature on my life and work. You can read the article here.

Ralph was excited to see his mug in print and Zoe was excited to see a picture of the mural in her room grace the front page of the newspaper. Great article all around. Thanks to Steve and Carol for coming by to chat and snap pictures!

RISD's XYZ Magazine

I'm honored to have been featured in a special book-themed issue of RISD's alumni magazine along with Brian Selznick and David Wiesner. You can read the article below! You can also flip through the entire issue to read about RISD alum doing great work on the printed page. (Just a head's up, not all of the subject matter in the other articles is kid-friendly.)

November issue of Parents magazine

I gave tips on raising a reader, along with a bevy of kids' book authors, in the November issue of Parents magazine. Check it out on newsstands or click over to the Parents website.

Comics get Librarian Love

I'm honored to have Lunch Lady highlighted in two major librarian periodicals. School Library Journal's July issue has "Comic Relief: Thirty-nine graphic novels that kids can't resist" and  the recent issue of ALA's Book Links has "Twenty Ridiculously Humorous, wickedly wild, visually arresting, acidly irreverent, and possibly appealing series for those young and old readers who enjoyed captain underpants books and want more". How's that for an article title?

Thank you librarians! You are in a league all your own!

LL in LA Times' Reading by 9

I am honored to have had Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute featured in the LA Times' "Reading by 9" supplement.  The supplement came with last week's paper, but you can download a PDF of the 2010-2011 Reading by 9 here.

This is a great resource for parents and educators and is available in Spanish and English.

WICN radio interview

Mark Lynch has been covering my work on his show, Inquiry, since 2001. Mark is also that art teacher I had who told me to "forget everything I learned" upon learning that I read a "How to Draw Comics" book. In this year's interview, we cover the continuing Lunch Lady saga and I reveal info on my return to picture books in Fall 2011 and what's next for Punk Farm!

The Ambassador Has Spoken

Ambassador Scieszka appeared on the CBS Early Show to recommend books for holiday gift-giving. Check it out. I am honored that the Lunch Lady series is on the list.

Looks like I'll need to slip a five dollar bill in Jon's holiday card this year . . .

Slug in InStyle

"They're saying orange is the new black."
--Slug

My Buddy, Slug is in the December issue of InStyle magazine. Truth is, I have no business being in a style magazine. (My wife dresses me.) But Rachel Bilson, of O.C. fame, lists Slug as one of her staples in children's book gift giving.

Set your DVRs and VCRs for Friday morning. I am scheduled to appear on the CBS' The Early Show. *Fingers crossed for a slow news week*!

I will be talking up my appearance on the Target Stage at the NY Times Great Children's Read.

I don't know what time it will air exactly, but thinking sometime between 7 and 9.

California Kids

Patricia Newman wrote a really nice article on my work and the new Lunch Lady books in California Kids, which is a great free paper out in the Golden State.

Read the article here. And while you're there, check out all of the other great articles that she's written on other children's book authors. The list is massive and mind-boggling! Definitely worth bookmarking.
