Aftermath
Frankie
Thankfully, no birds were harmed. But Frankie will need to explain to the kids where their arts-and-crafts project went...

Deadlines!
Every evening, I saw my grandfather come home with his hands stained from the oil of the machines he worked on. He taught me how to work hard. My kids see me emerge from the basement studio with my hands stained from ink.

Creativity
I had the pleasure of running workshops on writing to third and fourth graders at Buker Elementary today. They collaborated on stories about a bird firefighter, a pickle thief, a nose that plays football and a piranha teacher. Don't you just love their minds?!

This (dramatic pause) is the TED Radio Hour on NPR
Morning coffee and the TED Radio Hour on NPR. The recent show is all about Joseph Campbell's theory on the hero's journey...and I am beyond thrilled and honored to be included in this episode. Not just because of the Star Wars theme or that George Takei is featured right after my segment (admittedly those are pinch-me items) ... but I had the opportunity to put the spotlight on mentors. And I had some amazing mentors—they changed my life.
For my educator friends, I hope that you can see your stories in the tales of my mentors.
May the Force be with you.

Christmas Hack
PRO TIP: When you put up a ridiculously large, Griswoldian tree, affix the star first. If not, stand on a chair, suction a tree topper into place and have your kid cut the power to the vacuum...
Book Recommendations
It's a thrill and a privilege to be on SiriusXM Kids Place Live every week offering book recommendations. Here is a PDF of every book that I mentioned in 2015. The books are organized by category, so I hope this serves as a helpful tool as you shop for holiday gifts!
